A Persian carpet store, Mirza Carpets, is finally going to close after five years of “Closing Down Sale”. When asked why he had a five year closing down sale before actually closing down, Mr Mirza stated that the closing down sale was initially a good idea since the carpet sales picked up when he first announced the sale. He was hoping that the increased sales volume would continue if the store continued the closing down sale but some people after a few months of sale realized that the sale was a gimmick and the sale of carpets started slipping down.
It’s really weird, because some people just can’t be convinced to go out and buy a pile of rugs. It may be because rugs aren’t exactly something that you need to go out and buy all the time and people are less willing to hoard stuff in their house.
After about two years of the sale, Mr Mirza changed the sale to “Final Closing Down Sale – All Stock Must Go” which again provided a slight blip in business but unfortunately it did not last long. Mr Mirza therefore decided to sell the business so that the new owner could change the name of the store and open it with “Under New Management Sale – New One Million Dollar Stock” which he hoped would be very successful.
