It has been rumored that the Indian blackout which left almost half of the North Indian population in dark for more than 24 hours was a part of the Indian Government’s decision to reduce pollution in North India; in particular in New Delhi. It has been reported that the air quality in New Delhi last Monday afternoon was significantly worse than the air quality in Beijing, according to real-time air monitors in both cities.
It has been remarked by experts that monitor pollution that this year the air quality in New Delhi has been noticeably worse than previous years. On Monday, a thick gray haze hung over Delhi’s taller buildings, and a visible film formed quickly on stationary objects, leaving a chemical taste and grime on the skin.
There have been other rumors explaining the reasons for the blackout. One of them suggests that there were just too many weddings in North India during the hot Indian summer and the power network could not handle the load generated by the weddings. The temperature in Delhi had climbed well above 100F. Yet another rumor is that the prank was planned for the April Fools Day but it just happened to be four months late.
When thegarlic tried to contact the Indian Government ministers, each of the ministers said that they were not responsible for the power network. In fact no one could name the government official that was responsible for the power network in North India.
