In the wake of the recent horrific shooting that killed 12 in a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado, representatives from the National Rifle Association (NRA) asked all Americans to ensure that each of them take at least one gun to the movies because people like James Holmes are always likely to show up and practice their shooting skills.
The NRA President David Keene criticized the overreaction of the media at the shooting. He claimed that other violent crimes are part of everyday life in American cities. Most of these crimes are not even reported by the media. The primary reason, the NRA President claimed, is that these crimes don’t draw ratings. On the other hand, sensational reporting about gun crimes like the Aurora movie shooting does. The NRA President further noted that the media are directly responsible for contributing to the collapse of American freedom.
David Keene also noted that all citizens should love their guns and never leave home without one or more so that they are able to defend themselves. Guns are necessary not just in defending oneself and the family but are great fun in hunting, target practice, and in shooting illegal migrants. As awful as the Aurora shooting was, the NRA President noted that people who have suffered must not forget how the situation would have been very different if every member of the audience had a gun and shot the gunman immediately it was discovered that the person was shooting. Most likely James Holmes would not have even come to the movie theatre if he knew that all the people there were armed. That is why NRA fully supports the citizen’s right to bear arms and encourages citizens to arm themselves to defend American freedom.
