It is well known that Mr Charles H. Duell who was Commissioner of US Patent office noted in 1899 that “Everything that can be invented has been invented”.

Now, one of thegarlic reporters has come across a senior professor in mining at Oxford who thinks that all good ideas that were possible have been mined from the known deposits of good ideas. It may be that some small deposits are yet to be discovered. The world has therefore (almost) run out of good ideas. The professor who spoke on the condition of anonymity believes that all so called new ideas are now either recycled good old idea or are just bad ideas. Since the world has run out of good ideas, a lot of bad ideas are being mined and such ideas are circulating around the world and are being implemented by private companies and governments.

It is amazing how many bad ideas are circulating in the world. Some examples of bad ideas in recent times include Mr Murdoch’s idea that Iraq war was a good war since it was going to bring down the price of oil to $12 a barrel.  The Al-Qaeda idea that resulted in the 9/11 terrorist attacks was a bad idea since it did not help the Muslims. Mike Huckbee’s idea of comparing providing health insurance to someone with a pre-existing condition to insuring a car that had been totaled or insuring a house that had burned down wasn’t a brilliant idea either.

Yet another bad idea is to continue to produce pennies since, as of 2012, it costs approximately 2.4 cents in raw materials and labor to mint a penny. One economist, estimates the production of pennies causes an annual net loss of some $300 million in the U.S.

The governments really need to support exploration of new deposits of new ideas, perhaps under the ocean or in Siberia or Alaska.
