Rick Santorum, the Republican Party Presidential hopeful that has now quit the race, was yesterday admitted to the Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia. He was found to be suffering from nausea and vomiting. Santorum was admitted to the hospital because nausea and vomiting were a matter of concern since the symptoms can be early signs of blockage in the intestines or cancer or a tumor or even ulcers in the lining of the stomach. The doctors examined him and put him on a drip to rehydrate his body.

Further investigation of Santorum’s condition revealed that nausea and throwing up started when Mr Santorum saw the Vice-President Mr Joe Biden explain his support for gay marriage while appearing on NBC’s “Meet the Press” program over the weekend. Biden said he was “entirely comfortable” with same-sex marriage. He further added “I am absolutely comfortable with the fact that men marrying men, women marrying women, and heterosexual men and women marrying another are entitled to the same exact rights, all the civil rights, all the civil liberties”. That was the onset of Rick Santorum’s symptoms. The condition was made worse when the Secretary of Education Arnie Duncan also made comments about gay marriage.

Duncan when asked by Time political analyst and MSNBC contributor Mark Halperin if same-sex marriage should be legal in the United States replied “Yes, I do”. Duncan said he had never mentioned that publicly before because he has never been asked.

Rick Santorum’s condition got much worse, he collapsed and was rushed to the hospital, when President Barack Obama, marking the end a prolonged evolution on the issue, declared that he supported gay marriage in a US television interview. Obama told the American network ABC: “Over the course of several years as I have talked to friends and family and neighbors, when I think about members of my own staff who are in incredibly committed monogamous relationships – same-sex relationships – who are raising kids together, when I think about those soldiers or airmen or marines or sailors who are out there fighting on my behalf and yet feel constrained, even now that ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ is gone, because they are not able to commit themselves in a marriage, at a certain point I’ve just concluded that for me personally it is important to go ahead and affirm that I think same sex couples should be able to get married.”

Now that the correct diagnosis had been made, the doctors decided to keep Mr Santorum in the hospital for observation. He is likely to be discharged later in the week. He is being advised not to watch television news or listen to radio news and stop buying newspapers until he is completely recovered.
